One of the works being performed at Orchestra Santa Monica’s February 16 concert is Potentia, a new work composed by Jason Anthony Gomez and based upon a poem commissioned by OSM. The poem was written by Anne Carmack, Santa Monica’s first poet laureate, and OSM is proud to perform the world premiere of this moving work depicting passages of life. Read on for a brief discussion between OSM Music Director and Conductor Roger Kalia and Anne Carmack.

I am looking so forward to sharing this piece of work with you all next Sunday! Potentia was one of those pieces I didn’t expect. It came clear out of Elsewhere, ready to be written from the jump. We did not struggle, this poem didn’t put up a fight.
As soon as OSM reached out to me with this inspired invitation we were ready. I got to writing right away. Putting Potentia’s parts down on paper felt like just the right kind of project at just the right time. A perfect match I didn’t know that I needed - both a window and a mirror. See you soon!
